But on Thursday, Hugh Jackman was virtually encircled by bodyguards as he continued filming for new film, Bad Education, in New York.

Cutting a handsome figure in an olive grey suit pants and comfortable overcoat, the Wolverine star – who recently turned 50 – appeared pensive while flanked by his churlish looking entourage.

While the staffers remained close by, Hugh seemed relaxed while keeping his hands in his pockets before shooting began on the new drama which charts the unfolding of the single largest public school embezzlement scandal in US history.

Shooting a scene, the Hollywood star was seen rushing out of a building appearing shocked.

Wearing a full two-piece double breasted grey suit with his dark locks slicked back, Hugh had an incredulous expression on his face as he stared down the street.

Holding a set of keys in his hand, the popular actor then stopped to catch his breath, placing a hand on his chest to steady his nerves.

In Bad Education, Hugh stars as disgraced former school superintendent Frank Tassone, responsible for scamming at least $8 million from the Roslyn, Long Island, school district in the early 2000s.

Tassone was sentenced to four-to-12 years in prison in October 2006, but ended up being released in January 2010. He is now 81.

The dramatic performance comes shortly after Tinseltown heartthrob revealed his wife, Deborra-lee Furness refers to him as ‘Senator Jackman.’

‘When I go to restaurants because I was a waiter for so many years I’ll always say, “what’s your name?”She’ll go, “Senator Jackman’s here!”…it makes me laugh,’ he told Nine’s Today Show last month.

The nickname is certainly apt when it comes to Hugh’s new role in The Front Runner, which is released here in January.
