Former Barcelona and PSG football icon Ronaldinho expressed his optimism about Lionel Messi concluding his career with Barcelona, describing it as a “wonderful” prospect. After leaving Barcelona in the summer of 2021 due to the club’s inability to extend his contract, Messi embarked on a new chapter with PSG, signing a two-year deal that concludes this summer.
Speculation about Messi’s future has been persistent, with discussions of a potential return to Barcelona gaining traction. Several players from the club have openly discussed the possibility, and recently, President Joan Laporta affirmed that the doors would always remain open for Messi at Barça.
Now, Ronaldinho has also shared his perspective, affirming that it would be pleasing to witness Messi’s homecoming and see him complete his illustrious career at the club where he has left an indelible mark.
As reported by SPORT, the esteemed former Barcelona and Brazilian football legend expressed, “I consider Messi my friend, and I am genuinely delighted for him. Witnessing my friends’ dreams come true brings me immense joy.”
“For me, Messi is unparalleled. His happiness is what truly matters to me, regardless of the location. Considering his history with Barcelona, it would be truly remarkable if he could conclude his career there.”
It is understood that Messi’s primary focus is on returning to Barcelona rather than extending his contract with PSG. However, the path to a homecoming is complicated due to the financial challenges faced by the club.
La Liga president Javier Tebas recently cautioned Barcelona, emphasizing that several changes are necessary for Messi’s potential re-signing. He stated, “For Leo Messi to return to Barcelona, numerous adjustments need to occur. Firstly, a significant reduction in his salary is required, along with player departures and other pending matters. It falls upon the club to undertake these actions, as we will not modify the regulations.”
