Even in Barbieland, three-time Grammy winner Dua Lipa ranks among the greatest pop stars around the world.
On Thursday, the 27-year-old English singer showed off her incredible moves and beautiful voice in the new music video for her track, Dance The Night, which took place in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming new film, based on the famed Mattel doll franchise.
As she arrived on set, the Levitating hitmaker was given new choreography, which she picked up immediately, before a mᴀssive disco ball came crashing down on the dance floor.
Without missing a beat, she slipped into a shiny pink bodysuit with a halter top and tiny miniskirt, and began busting a move with a number of back-up dancers.
Glimpses of her costars, Margot Robbie, Issa Rae, and Emma Mackey, who all play Barbie dolls, also made cameos in the video as they danced in shimmery.
‘Even when the tears are flowing like diamonds on my face / I still keep the party going, not one hair out of place,’ the London native crooned.
Once wrapping the number and song, Gerwig appears and asks what happened to the broken disco ball.
The music video’s release coincides with the unveiling of the full Barbie soundtrack, which will have songs from Ryan Gosling, Ice Spice, Lizzo, Charli XCX and more.
It has also been confirmed that the following artists will be featured: The Album; Ava Max, Dominic Fike, Fifty Fifty, Gayle, Haim, Kali, Karol G, Khalid, Nicki Minaj, Pink Pantheress, Tame Impala and The Kid Laroi.
Alice Glᴀss has also teased her goth-infused cover of Aqua’s 1997 hit parody song Barbie Girl, which is expected to be featured on Barbie: The Album.
Gerwig directed and co-wrote the $100M-budget comedy with her babydaddy Noah Baumbach and they enlisted Oscar winner Helen Mirren to narrate the first live-action Barbie film.
‘After being expelled from Barbieland for being a less-than-perfect doll, Barbie (Margot Robbie) sets off to the real world to find true happiness with a little help from Ken (Ryan Gosling),’ the logline read.
Will Ferrell, John Cena, Simu Liu, Michael Cera, Alexandra Shipp, Kate McKinnon, Hari Nef, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, America Ferrera, and Emerald Fennell are also featured in the Mattel fantasy flick.
Dua will star as a mermaid version of Barbie.
Speculation about her involvement in the project was first teased when the official Instagram for the film was launched.
The account followed 15 people involved with the movie, including Dua, which prompted speculation that she would appear.
Her break into acting comes after Dua became a household name in 2018 when her single, One Kiss, topped charts around the world.
A year later, she won the Brit Award for Song of the Year and scooped best new artist and best dance recording prizes at the Grammys.
Last year, it was revealed she had left her management company TaP music and is now managed by her father, Dukagjin.
As well as starring in the Barbie movie, Dua will take on another acting role as she will have an undisclosed role in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming spy thriller Argylle.
The movie – based on Ellie Conway’s upcoming novel – will also star Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, Samuel L. Jackson, and Ariana DeBose.
